Beyond 2015 writes to the UN Secretary General
With less than 4 years to go until the 2015 MDG deadline, civil society is calling on the UN to lead the process of developing a new development framework.
Directors of more than 60 civil society organisations from almost 30 countries wrote to the UN Secretary General on 22 July 2011 to urge him to “encourage the United Nations General Assembly to begin work in 2011 on establishing a process to develop a development agenda for beyond2015” and to offer their support in this initiative.

Over 150 organisations worldwide are working together as part of tthe Beyond 2015 campaign to ensure that there is a framework to replace the MDGs in 2011, and that the process to develop the framework meets the essential must haves developed by the campaign.
Beyond 2015 feels that the UN is the only legitimate body to lead this discussion, and that the General Assembly should take a strong leadership role. Participating organisations look forward to seeing the Secretary General’s Annual Report on the MDGs, which UN DESA has confirmed, in a recent letter, will contain recommendations on the post-2015 agenda and will be used to stimulate discussion in the General Assembly in September.
It is thus important for civil society organisations to engage with their governments in advance of UN General Assembly discussions in September – to do so, please adapt and send the standard influencing letters in English, French and Spanish to your relevant governmental contacts. When you know your government's position, please share it with Beyond 2015 International Coordinator Leo Williams so that Beyond 2015 can build up an accurate idea of government positions.
