National Hubs - Guatemala

The Asociación Coordinación de ONG y Cooperativas (CONGCOOP) was the national lead agency for the Beyond 2015 hub in Guatemala. Contact: Helmer Velasquez of CONGCOOP


Many activities were carried out through the Beyond 2015 hub in Guatemala. Some highlight include:

  • National and regional deliberations / meetings in March - May 2013 to reflect on the Government's commitment to the Millennium Development Goals and initiate a dialogue on the post-2015 agenda. Click here to read the final report available in Spanish
  • Formulation in 2014 of a proposed agenda called “Guatemala Beyond 2015”, focusing on government priorities for the post-2015 era to address inequality, poverty, women's empowerment - proposal established in partnership with other CSOs, government and development partners 
  • Civil society discussions on the outcome documents of the Open Working Group on the SDGs and Beyond 2015's reactions, and dissemination of 1,000 copies of a summary of the proposed SDGs during the Guatemala 2014 International Book Fair
  • Convening of seminars (e.g. see here) and press conferences on a range of issues including women's empowerment, access to preventive health services, and the social, environmental and cultural rights of peasants and indigenous peoples
  • Several interactions in 2015 with the Chancellery, the Presidency of the Republic, the Directorate General of International, Multilateral and Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Permanent Mission in New York - Beyond 2015's advocacy messages were shared in an effort to influence the final content of the SDGs
  • Official request for the Government to establish a National Committee on the implementation of the SDGs
